This month, the trees featuring in our special blog chasing the tree on every continent include: Lychee Tree, Hopea Tree, Burretiodendron Hsienmu, and Adina Tree. Our journey of chasing the tree on every continent continues in China, one of the largest and most important countries of the Asian continent, in June.
Red-Fruited Lychee Tree
Featuring on our social media accounts this month, the Lychee Tree is known as Lychee Longan in Latin. Reaching up to 15-20 meters in height and evergreen all four seasons, the Lychee Tree also has a small and red fruit.
The fruit of this tree growing in the south of China was also called as the king fruit in the past and collected as a tax from the people. Known to be very rich in vitamin C, this fruit has gained an important place in today’s Asian cuisine.
The Healing Hopea Tree
Called as Hopea Odorata in Latin and frequently found in China, the Hopea Tree is a large and imposing-looking tree that can grow up to 45 meters. The Hopea Tree grows near rivers and at altitudes from sea level up to 600 meters.
The resin derived from the Hopea Tree can be used for therapeutic purposes by applying it to wounds. The bark of the tree is also used for the treatment of diarrhea and gums.
The Hopea Tree is preferred in the green areas of large projects as it creates shady areas and can be planted even in uneven lands.
Tough and Durable Burretiodendron Hsienmu
A species belonging to the tree family Malvaceae, the Burretiodendron Hsienmu tree is found in the countries such as China and Vietnam.
A very hard, tough and durable tree, Burretiodendron Hsienmu is also known for protecting its ground from termite infestation for a long period of time. Despite its quite hard and tough structure, the tree is among the species threatened by habitat loss.
Bushy Adina Tree
Our last tree endemic to China is the Adina Tree belonging to the family Rubiaceae. A tree species native to the East and Southeast Asia region, Adina Tree is a small tree species with a bushy form.
Although the flowers of Adina Tree may be insignificant individually, they create an attractive appearance when they bloom together.
